Nathan and Amy received the call they had waited for. They had been chosen to parent a beautiful baby boy. Together they spent several weeks in a hotel in Pennsylvania with their new bundle of joy, Gabriel, while waiting for adoption paperwork to clear them to come home.
They celebrated their first Mother’s and Father’s days as a family of 3. Gabriel had quickly become the Apple of his parents (and grandparents) eye.
Then, in early August unbelievable tragedy struck this beautiful family and Nathan slipped away into the arms of Jesus.
Without warning everything changed.
Waves of shock and sadness moved through the Choosing Hope staff as we watched a family we love grieve. But our mission remained the same: Love, honor, hope…pour on Jesus.
In the months since Nathan passed we have had the privilege of watching Amy love Gabriel, she has pressed in hard and advocated for Gabriel’s needs, she has taught him to crawl, talk, give kisses, and sing. She’s told Gabriel stories of Nathan and how much he loved him. She grieved and grieves…but her faith in Jesus…it has left the Choosing Hope staff in awe.
After many long months Amy, Gabriel, and family traveled to New Jersey to finalize the adoption of Gabriel. While we couldn’t attend the court finalization Amy was able to broadcast it live via Facebook. It was beautiful. In honor of Nathan and for Amy and Gabriel the judge elected to date the adoption final not on June 15, 2016, but instead on August 8, 2015, the day before Nathan passed therefore granting the adoption of Gabriel to both Nathan and Amy.
It was a moment of honor.
Tears flooded that courtroom and surely those tuned in via the Facebook feed. We recognized a victory amidst the pain of the tragedy that had woven its way into this family’s story.
We look forward to watching Gabriel grow up and for continued testimony of beauty from ashes that our Lord promises.
Congratulations Nathan, Amy, Gabriel, and family. We love you all.
Brittany and Matt’s journey to adoption is like many others.
One of heartache.
But when they decided to begin their adoption journey they jumped in with both feet. Getting documents turned in quickly, finger printing done as soon as we said “go.” In no time they were home study approved and waiting.
Last Friday we made a call to Brittany to let her know that her and Matt hadn’t been chosen to parent by an expectant mom who had been considering them. It was a hard phone call to make and surely a harder one on Brittany’s end to receive. Our closing words to Brittany were “we are praying, we know the Lord has something for you.” She agreed and we said our goodbyes.
Later that evening Choosing Hope received a call from a hospital saying they had a mom in labor who wanted to make an adoption plan for her baby. In a few hours time we were side by side with this beautiful brave mom. Praying with and for her and serving her in any way she needed.
She had a beautiful baby and soon requested to see waiting family profiles saying she hoped to choose a family that didn’t already have children at home. We handed her a few profiles and she asked for some time alone to think and pray about her decision.
Saturday morning this sweet mom texted us asking if we could come to the hospital to talk. When we arrived she said “I have chosen Brittany and Matt.” It was a tear filled moment.
Less than 24 hours after calling Brittany and Matt to tell them they hadn’t been chosen we were calling them back to come and meet their new baby.
God is good.
