“Matched” is a common term used in the adoption world, specifically by adoptive parents. Once an adoptive family’s home study has been approved they can be “matched” or chosen by expectant parents making an adoption plan for their child.
The journey to matching an expectant mom with adoptive parents, of her choice, has many ins and outs. Here are some things Choosing Hope Adoptions likes to see happen before she chooses a family:
It is important to Choosing Hope Adoptions that the expectant parents we serve have had ample time to consider both parenting and making an adoption plan for their coming baby. For this reason, we typically wait to match an expectant mom with an adoptive family until she is into her 3rd trimester.
Brittany and Matt’s journey to adoption is like many others.
One of heartache.
But when they decided to begin their adoption journey they jumped in with both feet. Getting documents turned in quickly, finger printing done as soon as we said “go.” In no time they were home study approved and waiting.
Last Friday we made a call to Brittany to let her know that her and Matt hadn’t been chosen to parent by an expectant mom who had been considering them. It was a hard phone call to make and surely a harder one on Brittany’s end to receive. Our closing words to Brittany were “we are praying, we know the Lord has something for you.” She agreed and we said our goodbyes.
Later that evening Choosing Hope received a call from a hospital saying they had a mom in labor who wanted to make an adoption plan for her baby. In a few hours time we were side by side with this beautiful brave mom. Praying with and for her and serving her in any way she needed.
She had a beautiful baby and soon requested to see waiting family profiles saying she hoped to choose a family that didn’t already have children at home. We handed her a few profiles and she asked for some time alone to think and pray about her decision.
Saturday morning this sweet mom texted us asking if we could come to the hospital to talk. When we arrived she said “I have chosen Brittany and Matt.” It was a tear filled moment.
Less than 24 hours after calling Brittany and Matt to tell them they hadn’t been chosen we were calling them back to come and meet their new baby.
God is good.
