What Expecting Moms Look for in Adoptive Parents

That’s why it’s very important to give the best impression possible when you’re putting together your profile materials. A women who has never met you needs to decide whether or not you’re the right people to raise her child based off some photos and few paragraphs of text.

In order to best represent yourself, it helps to understand what expecting moms are looking for in adoptive families. But before we get to that, a word of advice…

You Should Always Present Your Authentic Self

This isn’t about looking or acting the way that someone else might want you to. You want to be chosen for who you are and what you will provide to this child. By understanding the viewpoint of an expecting mom, you can have a better idea of what areas you should highlight and emphasize.

Every Mom Has Their Own Criteria

If you try too hard to be universally appealing, you might fail to standout at all. Many expecting moms are looking for specific things. One mother might want her child to be raised on a farm where another mom might find identify better with the city life.

Some moms want adoptive families who already have kids. Others don’t.

When writing your descriptions, be specific. Mention your goals. Your accomplishments. Your quirks. By properly detailing who you are, what you believe, and how you live your life, you can be noticed by an expecting mom looking for someone just like you.

Show a Variety of Pictures

Birthmoms often look very closely at the pictures in waiting families’ portfolios. They use them to imagine what their child’s life will be like with you.

The images you choose should encapsulate all the major areas of your life. They should show you when you’re having fun, when you’re around your house, when you’re celebrating a special occasion, etc. Don’t choose photos that seem fake or overly posed.

Try to select ones that tie back to different points of your profile description. Show the life that an adopted child could have with you.

The photos in your profile should be quality. One or two selfies may be ok, but professional, lifestyle photos with a high resolution should be a priority.
